Detective :Fortuneteller 1
July 21, 2017
When the detective returned from an investigation, he saw a guy in his fifties who was talking to the retired guy. They were laughing. The detective felt a little bit jealous. As soon as the retired guy looked at the detective, he jumped up from the seat and introduced the detective to the client, and left to make coffee. The detective sat down, and the person started to talk about his concerns.

He was a businessman. One day, when he was walking in the downtown area after work and he saw a fortuneteller, a middle aged woman sitting at a small table by the sidewalk. He decided to ask her to predict his future just for fun. The woman took his left hand and looked at his palm. She was wearing common clothes, but her aura looked somehow mysterious.

She said that he was married, he worked for a company related to exports, he liked watching baseball games. He wasn't surprised that all what she had said was correct. He knew that fortunetelling emphasizes 'regular' things of a customer's life. In his age, many people were married, many companies were related to exporting, and many guys liked baseball. She pointed out that his present concern was his boss's unfair treatment of him. Again, he wasn't surprised at what she said. Usually all workers have complaints about their job, just like all wives have complaints about their husbands' indifference to their kids' scores in school.

She said that his future wasn't bad. He would have a promotion, his kids would get a good job, his wife wouldn't leave him. The fortuneteller mischievously laughed. The woman's smile was somehow attractive. She gave some advice to him.

As the fee was not so expensive, he sometimes stopped by this fortuneteller, and it was a pleasant time for him until one day. It had been about three months since he had first visited this particular fortuneteller. After work, he stopped by this fortuneteller as usual. The fortuneteller looked at his left palm and said, "Oh, you have had some changes recently." He thought that she would say something about his family. They had a new dog. One of his kids got an award for his painting, the other c The fortuneteller said, "Your company got a big contract. And you were the person in charge." The guy became agitated and stared intently at her. Her eyes were shinning mysteriously.

After leaving the fortuneteller, he began thinking. How did she know about this? He hadn't told her anything about his job, his company's name, their products, what he was doing, etc. She didn't ask either. He became scared. In this competitive society, every company had some secrets. He wanted to consult with the police about it. But is fortune telling a crime? He didn't think so, and he came here instead.

The detective and the retired guy looked at each other. The detective said, "So, you don't think what she had said was just prediction?" The guy replied, "What she said was too detailed. Even here, now, I hesitate to say what she had said precisely." "And until then she had never said that type of thing?"  The guy answered, "No."

The detective asked him to tell him the dates and times that he went to the fortuneteller, and he wrote them on the whiteboard. He went there five times, all on weekday nights and for thirty minutes each time.

The detective asked, "Have you ever felt that somebody was following you?"  The guy asked, "Are you asking if she followed me?"  The detective said, "If she wants some information about you. The easiest way to get that info is to follow you to your house. If she knows your house, she could wait for you in the morning and follow you to your company."  "But what for? I am the person who went to see her first."  "Of course, because she was there as a fortuneteller. It's that type of occupation."  The detective asked him to let him check his smartphone. The guy handed it to him and he checked. There was no spyware. The detective asked him whether she gave him something like a lighter, which could be a GPS transmitter. The guy didn't receive anything from her, and there was no gadget found in or on his business bag.

After the guy left, the detective began to stare at the white board. The retired guy said, "So, are you thinking that the fortuneteller has the same job as you?"  "I don't know. I've never heard that detectives use fortunetellers as a cover. But, to come to think of it, it's possible. They don't have to stay in the same place. They can move whenever. It's convenient to watch some places or people without being noticed." "But in this case, who would be the client? If some company wants some information about him, why did she reveal what information that she got?"  The detective said, "I don't know."

The retired guy suddenly said, "You are overthinking."  The detective asked, "What do you mean?"  "She is a genuine."  "Genuine of what?" The retired guy said, "A genuine supernatural power holder. They can see everything. They can really forecast the future. I watched it on TV."  The detective said, "Is a genuine psychic earning a living by the side of the road by telling fortunes? I don't think so."  The retired guy became silent.  Soon he realized that the detective was staring at him. He said, "What?"  The detective said, "I need your help."
