| A company invented a mirror. In the mirror, a person could look ugly or pretty; however, not how the person's actual appearance was, but, rather, the mirror reflected the person's state of mind from the person's face. On the face, there are uncountable facial nerves. This machine-mirror could calculate each nerve movement and analyze the state of mind, and then would output the facial appearance on the mirror. The analysis was the core technology of the machine to which the company had some patents. But, unfortunately, most people didn't want to buy this machine because they didn't think they were good people. At first, the machines sold a certain amount. But, some of the customers complained that the machines were broken, and this negative news was broadcasted on TV and radio. Viewers thought that the machine was not broken, just the users who complained didn't know about themselves. Sometimes wives or husbands, or boyfriends or girlfriends bought it for their
Some people appealed to the president of the company that he should try this machine in public. Surprisingly, the president announced and held a demonstration himself. Many TV reporters came. His subordinate switched on the mirror-machine, and the president's appearance soon appeared. It was a kind and cheerful face. Originally, he was a good guy. He released this machine with the whole effort of his company, and used even his private resources. This machine was his dream. He believed that this machine had a chance to change the world. It might be the 'momentum' that people need to start to pursue their good natures. The TV broadcasted this, but, unfortunately, it didn't go in the right direction. Many people who were watching TV, or its videos on the internet wondered if the company changed the inside of the machine to portrait the president's appearance to a suitable one. After the broadcast of the event, the sales of the mirrors began to get worse than before. One day, a guy in his 50's came to the company's customer center. He complained that his mirror-machine was broken. But, his complaint was a little bit different from others. He said that he was a bad person, at least not a good person but the mirror-machine showed him looking gentle, modest, and kind. He asked the clerk to exchange it for a new one. The clerk asked him to wait, and checked the machine. It wasn't broken. But, he knew that there were many machines being returned from customers with complaints, so he gave him one of them. The guy left with the new machine, but the next day he came back to the company and told the clerk the same thing. The clerk reported about the previous day's event by e-mail to the president because he was told to do so after this type of claim. He also received an e-mail back about it. The clerk called the president, and the president told him to ask the customer to wait until he could go personally. After 10 minutes, the president came to the center. When he saw the guy, he thought that the clerk was correct. The guy's appearance was that of a typical gang-boss look. The president led the guy to the meeting room and told the clerk to demonstrate the machine. The clerk turned it on and soon the guy's appearance appeared. It was amazingly different from his original appearance, as gentle as a priest. It had a loving spirit. The president had used the machine with many people at various trial stages an uncountable amount of times, but he had never seen such a big jump between a real face and a face in the mirror. The president asked him, pointing to the mirror, "Why do you think you have no value in this face?" The guy said, "I'm not a bad person. But, I'm not a good person either. I think this machine has some tricks or something to amplify the original one." The president said, "I don't think so. We developed this machine using all our technology and money. I tried it myself thousands of times. I believe that you are a good guy." The guy looked for the proper words, and said: "When I was a child, my parents asked why I had a scary face different from their own beautiful faces. After that I've had a hard time to communicate with people because they didn't seem to like my face. I have no wife, and only a few friends. I thought that this might be my overthinking, but I couldn't help it. But, the most fearful thing for me is if everything is effected by my face. So, I bought this machine to check to see if it was true. I wanted to check my inner qualities. When I saw myself in the mirror I couldn't believe it, and came here yesterday. And last night, I was looking at myself again in the mirror for a long time. I couldn't stop my tears falling. Maybe I came here today to thank you." The president said, "Nowadays, I've been thinking to stop the production of the mirror because of bad sales. But, I've changed my mind now. I remember my original goal of the product. You have reminded me of it." He shook the guy's hands smiling. Their faces were being reflected on the mirror beautifully. |
