Food
August 2, 2014
In this society the technology was very high. Things were made artificially, even food.

This was a popular TV show.
One of the guests on today's show was a man who was in his 50's, a famous critics of cuisine, his sensitivity to taste was beyond human.  The other guest was a woman who was in her 40's, a French chef who was famous for her originality of using a wide range of ingredients.
There were about 50 spectators watching the show.

The host of the show announced, "Today, we have prepared four kinds of dishes: an appetizer, a side dish, a main dish, and a dessert. In these dishes, at least one artificial food will be served. Although, all of the dishes might be artificial."
"I hope not," the male guest said. Laughing occurred from the audience.

The first food was served.
It was cold tomato soup.
The man ate a spoonful of soup.  Soon a
smile appeared on his face. "This is easy. The tomato's ripen taste is genuine, the salt is also from the sea, maybe the Pacific Ocean based from its mineral ratio."

The woman nodded, "The croutons are from real bread, not plastic." Laughing occurred again.
The host opened the envelope containing the answer and said, "They are correct."
Cheering voices occurred from the audience.

The second was the side dish.
The female chef ate into an onion ring and said, "Wow. The technique of artificial food has come to a high level. The texture is just the same as genuine onions. But, unfortunately, the bitterness is a little bit stronger than real onion rings. This is from a chemical factory."  The male critic nodded in agreement.
The host opened the answer and announced they were correct. The spectators cheered again.

The third food, a main dish, was beef steak.
The male critic cut the meat, and showed the tender red cut to the camera, it looked the same as genuine steak.
He put one portion into his mouth. But, this time it didn't look so simple. He was chewing with his eyes closed, frowning slightly.

The female chef was also silent.  She was chewing continuously. It looked like she was looking for something.
The spectators were watching them breathlessly.

After a while, the woman's face suddenly brightened. She said, "The last taste told me that this doesn't feel like pasture on the farm!  This is not natural."
The man raised one of his hands looking like he got a tip from her saying, "She is correct. My mistake was that I had started from the taste. If you start from the smell, you will come up with a subtle    discomfort at some point. This is a tough one."

The host opened the answer sheet and showed a regretful expression, but soon it changed into mischievous one.  He said, "Amazing! You are correct again!"
A big applause occurred from the spectators.

Soon ice cream was served as the last food.
The man, being relaxed after the challenge of the main dish, lifted his spoon to his mouth.  He enjoyed the coldness of the ice cream and said, "After the complexity of the former dishes, this is simple and I have to say 'simple is the best'.  This is simply from genuine milk."

The woman said, smiling, "This is the taste I ate when I was a child. I grew up in the country side. Every day a farmer carried a bottle of milk and my mother made ice cream occasionally. This taste is similar, and gives me a nostalgic memory."

The host opened the paper. His face became darkened, "Oh, that's a pity.  I'm afraid that this ice cream is made from plastic by a cutting-edge food company.  I felt freezing like ice cream thinking what the latest technology has come to this level."

The spectators gave a big stir, and they gave a collective sigh of regret.
But, some of the TV viewers, smart people, understood that this TV program was sponsored by the government which would like to increase the artificial food supply in order to cover the shortage of farmers and natural resources, as well as to cut the food costs.
