Clam 2-2
July 21, 2013
"What do you do in Shell?  Do you sell gas at a gas station?" he asked.  Picking up another clam sushi dish, she said, "No, no. I liked Shell by the sound of its name and its trademark.  Actually I was fascinated by the yellow and red big shell design.  But, soon after entering the company, I came to regret my easy decision."
She drank three glasses of water in a row and said, "First, I thought I would quit, but soon I learned that the company had an environmental section.  I asked to transfer to the section, and I was accepted."   He didn't know there was such a section, and wondered whether to believe her or not.
She looked at his expression and said, "The capacity of the sea to clean contaminated soil is great.  As you know, cars consume gas and emit CO2 and other bad things in the atmosphere. CO2 causes Green House Effect. It becomes Tropical-Forest-Climate weather, with frequent
heavy rains and also typhoons.  Typhoons start in the ocean at a reduced high temperature.  In addition, contaminated substances in the air fall down by rain, going into the river, and finally going out into the sea.  The sea is the last area to clean the contamination and cool the high temperatures of the atmosphere.  That section studies about the sea's function."
She was serious.  He didn't know what to say.  She added, "But, the sea is limited in how much it can clean the contamination.  Now, I think the sea has come to its limit.  Things in the sea face danger.  Human beings should know that."
By this time it started to rain, and soon it started to down-pour.  They stayed in the restaurant for a while longer but she said she needed to get out.  A clerk of the restaurant and him tried to persuade her not to go out in the down-pour; but, strangely, she insisted to go out.  Finally she went out, and he followed her.  The rain was extremely heavy with strong winds and soon it started lightning.  She was walking at first, but then she started to run.  He didn't know what happened to her.
She went to the river, and shouted something.  Because of the heavy rain, he didn't see anything but soon realized that a truck was laying down on its side and something was coming out of its tank.  He couldn't see anybody in the truck or around it.  She was struggling to stop the flow from the mouth of the tank, but, the mouth was big and the liquid was flowing strongly.  He was looking for some rope in order to tie his windbreaker to the mouth.  When he looked up at her, the river water suddenly carried her away.  It was so sudden that he couldn't move for a second.  He went to where she was last standing and frantically searched the area but he couldn't find her.  "Help!" he cried out many times, but it was in vain.  He had no idea what to do as the rain beat down on him.
