Salaried Worker
October 21, 2012
His boss told him, "From today you have to sell this box.  In this box there is a valuable product in it, like a digital camera, or a Swiss made watch, or caviar cans, or maybe a gold ring something like that.  Each box has a completely different product, and is surly worth the selling price.  After you sell the product our company pays you a commission of 25 % of the sale as your salary."
The guy looked at the cardboard box doubtfully and held it up.  The box was a 30 centimeter-diameter cube.  It weighted about a kilo or so.  He shuffled it.  There was no movement inside, so he guessed there were fillings around the product. The box had no label.  He asked his boss, "So what's inside?"
The boss was tense and looked away from him and responded, "You can't know what the product is.  Even the customer can't know until he or she pays, and opens the box."
The guy couldn't fully understand what his boss wanted to say, so he asked, "You mean I'll sell the product that I don't know
what it is; and, the customer will buy something that they don't know what it is?  Is this a new type of sales campaign or something?  I got it.  Like this box might be very cheap but sometimes expensive items are inside, sort of like the lottery, right?"
The boss responded coldly, "Lottery types of sales are prohibited in this country.  And furthermore, each box's price is 500 dollars."   "What!  Who in the world would pay 500 dollars for a product that they don't know what it is?" the salesman exclaimed.   His boss looked sorry, "I'm sorry but our company decided it.  You have to sell this box or you can't get any salary this month."   The guy was speechless.  He wondered if this ridiculous thing wasn't prohibited by the country as well, but said nothing.
The guy opened the box.  His boss didn't stop it.  There was a silver ring and caviar cans, as well as a tiny machine.  The tiny machine had a small red light and it soon turned to green.  His boss said, "This means the product has been sold. You have to deposit 500 dollars to the company account in 24 hours."
