Dancing King
February 16, 2014
The king liked dancing.
He had confidence about his dance moves and began thinking about holding a dance competition.

He asked his secretary about it.
The secretary said, "Your Lord, I admit that you are a good dancer but if you join the competition, the other dancers won't dance seriously and you will get first place."

The king said, "I'll prepare good awards for the winner, and will announce that the dancers who don't dance seriously will be punished."
The secretary said, "But the judges might give you additional points, thinking that you might reward them later."

The king laughed, "If they give me additional point, I'll punish them."
The secretary insisted, "But you won't know whether a judge secretly adds an extra point or not."

The king sighed and called one of his smartest subordinates and asked him to hold a fair competition.

The dance competition was announced all over the country.
On the day of the competition, a hundred dancers gathered.
In front of the audience, the subordinate in
charge of the competition explained the rules. There will be five judges sitting in front of the audience who will choose five finalists. But for the finals, another judging rule will be announced.

The competition started.
The king was not a bad dancer; in fact, he was a good dancer.
The audience gave him a big applause.

The king was selected to be one of the five finalists.
He was satisfied with the results; but, on the other hand, he felt that the judges' scores were a little nice to him.

The subordinate announced in front of the audience, "As I mentioned at the beginning, I prepared special judges for the finals."  He looked straight at the five finalists, "You are the new judges. I'll give you a score-sheet. You will have to write your competitors' scores on it."

When the king was about to say something, the subordinate said, "These are the king's rules, I was given the authority by the king."
The king gave a wry smile.

The first dancer was a young girl. Her dancing was amazing.  The four other dancers gave her her score.
After which, the three other dancers also performed beautifully.

The king was the last finalist to go.
The king was standing on the stage.
He looked around at the other four dancers.
"I'm not sure how the fairest way to score such a competition; but, I don't want to ruin such a fine competition because I am the king."
He let the subordinate gather the score-sheet of the finalists.

The king said, "These are enough, enough good results to decide the winner."
He smiled and started to dance without being judged.
