Design

She wanted to be a fashion designer when she was young, it was her dream. She would sketch her designs of dresses and other clothes. She also would paint flowers and other natural things for practice and as for motif for her designs.

But she chose a more stable and less-riskier job: an office worker at a company.

Whenever she saw cool fashion clothes while she was walking downtown, her heart would pond and would feel a little regretful about her choice of her job. Once she had thought about going to a fashion design school at night, but soon she became busy and gave up for the time being.

It was on Saturday when she was walking in the downtown area, she happened to see a poster on the wall of a boutique. It read 'Your design becomes your real dress.' The boutique seemed to open recently. She entered.

After browsing inside for a while, she saw a sign in the corner that read, 'Dresses
designed by our customers using our special machines'. There were about ten pieces of clothing on the mannequins. They varied from casual dress, jacket, pants, etc. She felt excitement.

Soon a female clerk came up to her and said, "These are designed by amateurs. Thanks to a new technology, anybody can make their own clothes like this. Do you want to see our machines?" She said yes.

The clerk took her behind a corner that was surrounded by partitions. There was a tablet computer on the table, as well as a large mirror and a big machine that the clerk said was a printer.

The clerk started to explain how the machines worked.
"First, the system needs the wearer's size." The clerk stood in front of the mirror, facing it. Soon a click sound sounded, and surprisingly the image of the clerk on the mirror froze on the mirror. It was a camera and a monitor. The clerk urged her to sit down next to her and she started to work with the tablet.

There soon appeared a list of hundreds of clothes. They were all white, though. She chose a certain jacket and clicked it. The jacket appeared on her picture on the tablet as well as on the mirror. She touched a certain button, and the picture of her on the tablet and on the mirror started to turn. She was amazed.

Then, the clerk started to change some details, like the width of the collar, and added a couple of pockets.  She also chose the material of the clothes.

And then, she chose a color, and the design of the surface of the clothes. She chose beige for the base, and chose a darker beige grid for the pockets as an accent.
She nodded, and said with a smile, "Finished." One final time, she viewed her complete design, rotating it around the tablet screen to check all around.

The clerk explained the other functions. The designers could draw any of their original designs using a drawing software and a rights-free picture as well. The clerk also explained about the price. It was not so expensive.

She asked, "And when can we receive our clothes? They're made in China or somewhere abroad, right? It must take time."

The clerk looked proud and said, "Today."  She was suspect, "What do you mean?" The clerk said, "You might forget but this is the printer for printing dresses." The clerk pointed to the big machine. "But you need to sew them, at least, right?"  "We use a special glue," the clerk answered.

She picked up one of the pieces of clothes from the mannequin, and urged her to look at the pieces' edges. There were no stitches. The clerk urged her to pull at them. They seemed firm. The clerk winked.

After all, she decided to make her dress and told her she would come the following day. That evening, she drew some designs until midnight.

The next day, on Sunday, she went to the shop at the opening time and started to design her summer dress. It was a dress with different colorful flowers. When she was inputting on her drawing into the tablet, the same clerk from the day before came over and was amazed by her design. It was not only beautiful, but somehow lively.

She used a full 4 hours to finish it. The clerk said it would take an hour or so to print, glue and dry. She went to the nearest coffee shop and took a late lunch.

When she returned, the clerk was drying the attached places using a dryer. After a couple of minutes, she said she finished and asked her to try on the clothes. She changed into her new summer dress. She had prepared shoes fitting for the dress.

She came to the clerk and stood in front of a mirror. Neither said anything, but just stared at the dress for a long time.

She paid the bill, and went out of the boutique in her new dress. It was a comfortable fine day in May. When she was walking, she felt all the pedestrians looking at her. She wondered if they might think the dress was strange because everyone was looking at her.

She thought, "Even if, I'm very satisfied."  She smiled at them, and they smiled back.
