| Satan came up to a man and asked, "What is she doing?" The man replied, "Maybe she is picking up trash." Satan asked, "What for?" The man looked at Satan and said, "Probably to clean up the road." Satan said, "I know. I'm not a nut. But why is she suddenly cleaning up the area in this cold season? Her hands are red. This area has been dirty for a couple of years. She could pick up trash during the warmer seasons." The man said, "To do good, I think, she doesn't need a reason." Satan said, "I got it. She suffers from senile dementia and doesn't know what she is doing." The man glared at Satan and said, "You are a symbol of the dark side, I despise what you just said." Satan's eyes shone but said nothing. Instead, Satan cleared his throat and said, "Other people are ignoring her. I am just curious about her reasons." The man said, "I don't know either. She might have got something good and wants
Satan said, "Doesn't make sense." Satan sighed and left. Satan came up to a woman and asked, "What is he doing?" The woman replied, "Maybe he is giving money to others. Look! The old man who received an envelope went into the convenient store." Satan asked, "What for?" The woman looked at Satan and said, "Probably to help people. In December, some people have a hard life and feel sad. He wanted them to feel happy even just for a short time." Satan said, "Is he a bad guy?" The woman stared at Satan in disbelief. Satan added, "I think he is a bad guy and he wants to do something good in order to erase his guilty feelings. The woman said, "Your way of thinking is crooked." The eyes of Satan shone, but he said nothing. The woman said, "He must be rich; but, rich men aren't always bad guys. I guess he just wanted to return something to society from his prosperity." Satan looked at the sight that in front of the man there was a long line now. Satan said, "Doesn't make sense," and left. Satan went back to the first guy and asked, "Hasn't she given up picking up the trash yet?" It was starting to snow. The man nodded, "We are witnessing a very precious thing at the end of this year. She isn't insane, she is an angel!" The man went over to her and started to help her. Satan laughed, "She is too old to be an angel." "Look!" Satan shouted, "When she was picking up trash alone, nobody helped her, but after the man joined, other people started to join. Why didn't people help her in the first place? In fact, why don't people do good things by themselves, but just follow the people who do good things? It's as if they have a fear to be behind others from having done good things." The snow became heavier, but the number of people to join to pick up trash increased. Satan thought about his power to stop the snow. Satan bitterly laughed, "No, no, no, no. I was almost trapped by the human's pace." After a while, Satan saw a family of young parents and children join in. It became dark and the ground became hard to see. Satan said, "Ok, ok, it's enough. Maybe everybody wants to do a good thing even if only for now." He left. Suddenly the snow stopped. Now people were cleaning the town under the beautiful star shinning sky. |
