Knitting
March 30, 2017
She liked to knit. When she was young, she knitted often using yarn@and two sticks. She thought it was like magic that she could produce something from nothing just using two sticks and one long piece of yarn. When she was a high school student, it was the fashion to knit a scarf and present it to the guy who the woman liked.

After she got married, she knitted various things for her husband and their two sons ~ sweaters, gloves, caps, scarfs, etc. At that time, for her generation, it was usual work to make their family clothes without using much money.

She learned how to knit mainly from magazines for women. Her children would watch her knit to see what would appear next. But, as time went by, as she was getting older, her chances to knit were decreasing. Her two sons started to hate to wear their mother's knitted clothes, saying that they were not in fashion. Her husband's salary was going up, while clothing prices were going down. There were so many new types of fashionable clothes in shops. Knitting became just a hobby, and fewer people continued this time consuming hobby. She also stopped to knit.

She didn't restart until the time that her husband got sick and was hospitalized. She was in the hospital and she could remember that kitting was a good way to pass time; in addition, the materials were light and not bulky; so she could bring them easily to the hospital.

Other patients complimented her knitting works saying that they were very skillful and her way of choosing colors of yarn was unique with good sense. She was very glad.

Before her second sweater was completed, her husband passed away. She stopped knitting again.

At the beginning of this year, one and a half years had passed since her husband's funeral. At this time, she thought that she should start something. She came up with an idea and sat in front of her computer. She punched 'knitting' into the Google search engine. Soon many sites related to kitting appeared. With the help of Google's translation system, she could read the outline of each website. She learned that there were some competitions that competed in the speed of knitting. There were various Guinness Book of Records like 'the record of the largest sticks used for knitting'. They were 3 meters long! She also learned that there were so many knitters in the world. Some websites read that in the past many people knitted to make clothes and other things for their households, like her family.

She also realized there were many YouTube sites which taught how to knit for beginners, maybe for the younger generations. Many sites showed new types of knitting that had been invented, using materials such as 'wire' and other various materials.

Watching these movies and various pictures of people's knitting works, she felt her mind lifting up.

This year might be a busy year. She wanted to try new knitting ways that she had never tried. She wanted to try dying yarn. She wanted to try joining some knitting design competitions. She wanted to learn English in order to get more information from women all over the world.
