Shyness 2-2
Jun 9, 2013
The doctor thought that she had given up to remove her shyness, because she was very shocked by her dream, in which she couldn't feel sympathy to her student whose parents had died.  She believed that her lack of sympathy was because of the special treatment to remove her shyness.  Actually, she hadn't received the treatment yet; and, the doctor explained that her dream was a trial version to check her mind situation for after the treatment.
But after several minutes, recovering from the shock, she said to the doctor, "I had a second thought.  Being shy doesn't equal to being sensitive to other's unhappiness, or to be full of sympathy; and, likewise, being not shy doesn't equal to being not sensitive to others unhappiness, or to be not full of sympathy.  There are many people who aren't shy, but, sensitive to the feelings of unhappiness in others and, are full of sympathy."
The doctor looked puzzled, and said, "What you said might be right.  In that case, the software of the dream maker might not have been so sophisticated."
She said in a small voice, "So, what is your next strategy?  I heard that you are a
famous doctor."  She didn't look at his eyes, she looked shy, but her way of asking was fearless.  He wondered if she was really a shy person.
He said, "Ok, ok. Yes, I am a talented and skillful mental doctor.  So, now, I'd like to go to the next stage."
He asked her to stand up.  She stood up.  He told her to raise her right hand.  She did it.  He told her to shake her hand.  She waved her right hand awkwardly.   He told her to raise her left leg.  She was about to lower her right hand but the doctor said sharply, "Keep your previous position, please."  She looked bewildered and asked in a small voice again, "Is this series of actions related to removing my shyness?"  He just said, "Yes" but didn't explain further.  So, she raised her left leg a little.  He continued, "Extend your left hand through to the back of your head and pinch your right ear with your fingers."  She wondered, "Is he making fun of me?"  She stared at him.  He stared back.  He looked serious.  She gave up resisting and continued to do as he said.  He said, "Ok, next.  Bend your left leg forward until the bottom of your foot touches your right lap."
She hesitated for a long period this time.  It was a kind of an acrobatic pose.  It was also embarrassing.  But when she looked at him, his expression was serious.  She sighed and started to bend her leg but soon she lost her balance and fell down.  She hit her face badly on the floor.  She was angry and shouted, "You must be kidding me.  Should we patients follow the doctor's absurd orders?  You should have to explain how this method works towards curing my shyness."
