Sleep

    She wanted to sleep.@But couldn't.
She suffered from insomnia.  She hadn't been able to sleep well for several years.
Her doctor gave her various pills, but they didn't work so well.  The doctor suggested that she should get full rest, so she took a long vacation and went to a tropical island.  Even then she couldn't sleep well while there.
One Friday, after work, she was drinking in a bar at the counter.  A middle aged man next to her started to talk to her, "You look worried about something."  She was drunk, so she honestly replied, "I'm disgusted about my insomnia."  The man said in a joking tone, "Oh, I envy you.  I have no time to sleep, I'm a busy business man."  She glared at him.  The man laughed, "Oh, I'm sorry.  You probably spend a tough and stressful life."  She said nothing.
He asked, "Did you go to a doctor?"  She murmured, "I tried everything, sleeping
pills, psychiatrists, aromatherapy, Chinese medicine, hypnotism, even magicians."  He thought for a moment and said, "Have you ever tried 'sleeping cat'?"  She suspiciously asked, "What's that?"  The man became serious and started to talk:
"When I was in a branch of my company in the Middle East, one of my clients invited me to his house.  He lived with his cat, a Persian cat.  He said that he kept the cat for his sleeping aide.  I asked him how the cat worked.  He said, 'If you ever suffer from insomnia, you should try it.  After that, you will understand what I say.  Persian cats are the best for this.'  I've never had a chance to do it, though.  I always get to sleep immediately when I go to bed."
Next day, she went to a pet shop and bought a Persian cat.  It was a female cat and it was the first pet in her life.  The cat didn't seem friendly.  She wondered whether she could keep the cat suitably.  At night, she went to bed earlier than usual with some expectation.
The next morning, when she woke up she realized that she had been slept soundly.  She was very happy and gave her cat a big hug.
Actually, the man in the bar had told her nonsense, just a lie.  But it had a point.  Because the Persian cat was independent, it didn't like to be with her and escaped from her.  The more that she wanted to manage her cat, the less that she cared about her sleeping situation.  Furthermore, the cat was warm and had a feeling of a live creature, so she felt safe and secure, which she had not experienced for several years.
