| Recently he felt that the gaze of people's eyes towards him had changed from that of before. When he started to be Superman about 20 years ago, the spectators were excited every time at his actions and his 'super-suits'; they called it the 'Symbol of Justice'. They liked to take photos with him. But recently people's reactions had become cooler. They now preferred Spiderman or Batman. They thought those costumes were more sophisticated. Now he felt embarrassed to wear his costume sometimes; he lost confidence about himself recently. After the incident of the three gangsters, he had come to think seriously of throwing away his 'super-suits'. Now, while he was walking downtown, there was a young woman walking across the crosswalk. He saw a truck approaching
Just as the truck was about to hit her, he swooped in and picked up the truck and moved it to the far side of the road. The truck driver was shocked. After recovering from the shock, the driver thanked Superman many times. When he returned to the crosswalk, the lady was waiting at the corner for somebody. When he approached her, he first noticed that she had a white cane in her hand. Facing his direction, she said, "Did you help me? I don't know if anything happened or not." At this point, he had no idea what to say. She continued, "I felt that something was quickly approaching me, but then it was swept away by something. I think that the something was a human." He wondered if he should tell her the truth; if so, would she believe him or not? She continued, "If so, are you Superman or something?" It made him decide to say, "I..I stopped a truck from hitting you..." She was waiting for what he would say next. He said, "I am Superman." (To be continued ...) |
