When he got to the bathroom, he took out his mobile phone and called her.  She soon answered, "Hello?"  He spoke in a small voice so not to be heard by the couple in the living room.  He told her at first that she should only say 'yes'.  She recognized his voice and said, "Yes."  He continued, "This call is from the police.  The police say that they are going to be in front of the house where you were scammed soon.  They want you to wait for them. It will take only a minute.  You don't need to think that this is serious."   She said "Yes."   Soon the sound of the door shut.  He knew that she left to go out.  He figured that the couple wouldn't follow her because he was in their bathroom, though they must want to know what the police would say to her.
From the restroom, he focused on the voices in the living room.  The male voice, the old husband, whispered, "... Use a
smaller voice, or he could hear us."   The female voice, the old wife, said, "He can't hear us because the door of the bathroom is thick and I'm watching the door."  The husband said, "Anyways, we should be as careful as possible.  Can you see the police through the window?"  The wife said, "No. They haven't come yet. She is still waiting."  The husband said, "Do you think that the police have started to doubt us?"  The wife said, "I don't think so. We've never failed. Nobody thinks that an old couple would be a criminal, and their son as an accomplice.  Our son is the best. He is our masterpiece.  Plus, we will soon move to our son's city, so the police will forget about us eventually.  Our next victim awaits us."
He heard them laughing.  He called her phone again and said in a small voice, "The couple are looking at you now.  This is from the police again.  The police have another urgent job, so they can't come.  You should return."  Then, he got off the phone, got out of the bathroom and entered the living room.  The husband explained about the call from the police and her absence.  Soon, she returned and said what he had indicated to her.
After spending a couple of minutes with the old couple, they left the house.  The old couple was waving to them, but as soon as they shut the door, she asked him what was going on.  He explained about what he heard in the bathroom.  She was furious and started to call the police.  He stopped her, "We don't have evidence yet.  I have an idea."
