| [Rochu 3] The books of 'Tenka Gomen' consisted of three volumes and had 37 episodes in total. The internet read that the drama consisted of 46 episodes so the director had to extend. The three books were published from 2006 to 2007. The screen writer's name was Akira Hayasaka. He was born in 1929. On the cover of the first book, there was a quote from a famous director. "'Tenka Gomen' was really good. I was waiting for the drama every week very excitedly. It is the best in historical drama in this country." He checked about his age. He was born in the same year as he was! He was very happy to learn that it was not only him to feel the same way about this drama's quality. Another surprising thing happened. On the cover of the third volume, there was a quote from another famous and popular movie director and screen writer, "Even only once, I'd like to write a drama like this!" This director was three years younger than him. Every episode had its title. The first episode's title of the drama was 'Kompira Fune Fune'. It was the title of an old folk song from the Edo period which  was sung with dancing, originating in brothels. Everybody knew at least the first part of the lyrics and melody. 'Fune' means a boat, 'Kompira' means a shrine. Going to that Shrine by boat was sacred, and it was an enjoyable experience for citizens at that time. In the first scene, a Shogun was watching an elephant. The fresh voice of the female narrator, who was a famous singer, began: Narrator: The place was Edo, the era was also the Edo time period, the time was in May of Kyoho (emperor's year) 14th, it means about 250 years ago, the 8th Shogun Yoshimune was surprised at seeing an elephant for the first time. [Description : The elephant lifted his nose high.] Yoshimune : (To the retainer) What is that? Retainer : Sir. Wait a second, please, Sir. [The retainer asks the person next to him, the next asks the person next to him, and so on ... this relay is repeated until the last person answers, and then they relay the answer back.] Retainer : (To the Shogun) It is a nose, Sir. Yoshinume : It must be hard to use. Scene 2 ~Nagaya (cheap type of apartment) [Cheap nagaya for low ranked samurai. A gate. Some neighbors, men and women, were looking inside. ] Narrator : At the same time, in a small town in a small city in Sanuki in Shikoku, a boy was born. [There is a crying voice of a new male baby, "Ogya!" The voices of "He was born! He was born!" From the inside, there appears a man with a sake bottle in his right hand, a cup in his left hand.] Mozaemon : Ee, he, he. (He is drunk) A boy was born. Ee, he, he. Colleague : Are you already drunk? Mozaemon: I ... I've got an heir. Have one. (He pours sake.) (He starts to sing.) Kompira Fune Fune, getting winds on its sail, Shura-shu-shu-shu. (He pours sake.) [The crying voice of the boy.] Scene 3 ~A statue of 'Hiraga Gennai' [Standing in Shido Town.] Narrator : This baby is later 'Hiraga Gennai'. They call him 'one of the three most eccentric persons in this country. He made an electricity generating machine, he wrote screenplays of plays, he could do anything. But, it was unlucky about when and where he was born. In this small country, like an elephant, everything was hard for him to use. (To be continued ...) |
