His Ideas 24 ~ Three Major Elements
March 9, 2021
When he was a junior high student, he learned about three major elements for life, 'clothing', 'food', and 'housing'. He felt a sense of change for those three basic elements under the new coronavirus situation.

[Housing]
People had to stay longer at their home than before as 'lock downs' were implemented and a lot of companies carried out 'remote work'; schools also implemented remote classes. Some businesses where people could enjoy outside of their house like restaurants and bars, theaters, stadiums, amusement parks, etc. closed. The more people lived at home, the more people thought that their living place should be more comfortable.

One of the typical movement of people has been cleaning their houses. Thanks to additional time from no commuting, people started to clean their rooms. They organized their rooms, threw away things they didn't use much. After the coronavirus, he had realized that there were a lot of advertisement brochures in the newspaper from pawnshops asking to sell old post stamps, cameras, watches, bags, antique things, etc. Another increasing brochure type were from housing companies, which recommended renovation~ changing small tatami-mat rooms into a spacious big woody floor room with an updated kitchen; changing rooms that were once their kids' rooms into rooms for a remote work and Zoom meetings. Renovation shows on TV were popular. He heard that DIY shops' sales were good, maybe turning many people into Sunday Carpenters.

[Clothing]
As workers' days to go to their working places decreased, business suits' sales have been going down. Originally, for "new type" jobs ~working for computer companies, net shopping companies, software companies ~workers tended not to wear business suits. He didn't know if it was a joke or not, but it was said that only upper jacket sales were good because remote workers wear only them for Zoom meetings.

[Food]
As chances to eat out became fewer, food eating at home has become more important. He heard that supermarkets' sales went up while convenience stores sales went down. He guessed that people cooked at home rather than bought lunch boxes, rice balls, bread, etc. from convenience stores. Because they have time.

As the family is at home together, cooking a certain amount of food at the same time was more efficient for both time and cost. But, on the other hand, for parents, especially wives, who are busy for both their remote work and house work, are already busy. So, food companies adjusted for their needs. He recently realized that there was a genre of foods that have increased ~it was readymade sauces, concentrated broths and various soups. Using them, cooks don't need to measure out salt, soy sauce, tomato paste, or to prepare garlic, ginger, etc. Recently he bought a bottle of carrot salad dressing and tried using it for vegetable stir fly, and it was good!

His Idea #24 : Three Major Elements

He thought that it was a good thing for people to live in a clean house, wear comfortable clothes, and eat delicious and healthy food. More importantly, people started to do things by themselves. Originally, in ancient ages, human beings collected materials and made their clothes, houses, and food themselves. Modern people think that they can buy anything with money. The coronavirus might be a warning for us.
