His Ideas 34 ~ Specialists
May 27, 2021
Originally, he had vaguely had this idea, but he confirmed it when he was watching a news program.

On this day, he was watching the world news on TV, which was broadcasted on BS during the weekdays. On the program, a female host started to introduce an international movie. She stated that this movie corner introduces a new film once a month. He had never seen it before.

It was a North Macedonia movie. The title was 'God's Blessing to Petrunya'. Maybe this movie corner introduced minor, but very good quality movies from all over the world, including movies from minor countries.

Petrunya was a young woman living in North Macedonia. She was looking for a job. On this day, she got sexually harassed at a job interview. On her way home, she came across a local festival, in which men competed to get a crucifix that was thrown in the river. For some reason, she dove into the river, and found the crucifix, even though it wasn't supposed to be taken by a woman ...

After a brief introduction of the movie with some scenes being shown, a professor appeared and started to explain about the background of the movie ~ this country's people's lifestyle, customs, social problems, etc. He was amazed that the professor had such a broad knowledge and deep insight about the country.

From the quality and substance of the professor's video interview, it was clear that it was recorded from Zoom or something. Maybe they had set the meeting in advance and recorded it.

After the corona virus pandemic started, he realized that this type of interview, using Zoom, were increasing. Maybe one of the reasons was that TV needed specialists' opinions about the coronavirus, and couldn't have an "in person" interview because of the coronavirus pandemic. But, to come to think of it, it does have many strong points.

If the TV crew had to go to a specialist's place, for example, an university, a crew of 2 workers -an interviewer and a cameraman- would have to set the schedule, use a bullet train (if the specialist lived faraway) there and back, the TV company would have to pay those costs, plus rewards for the specialist. If they asked a specialist to come to their studio, maybe the TV company would have to pay more rewards, thinking about the specialist's time and transportation fees. Zoom meetings seemingly reduced everyone's time and costs.

His Idea #34 : Specialists

Before, maybe TV companies tended not to send crews to faraway places, as well as not to ask specialists who lived faraway places to come to the studio because of cost reasons. Maybe specialists from big cities had an advantage. When the corona pandemic started, TV companies started to use Zoom interviews a lot. They realized that they could get information from specialists that was not too costly and gave good quality and substance to their programs. With Zoom, they could get opinions from all over the nation, even from all over the world if they wanted to.

Now specialists had more chances to appear on TV, no matter where they lived. Because of this, a lot of specialists appeared on TV. Maybe it became more competitive to be selected, and maybe the rewards given out became lower; but, even so, their status would go up, and thus, their incentives would go up if they appeared on TV, which would produce a good circle.

He hoped that the various specialists' appearances would raise this country's TV programs' quality by adding more viewpoints on various subjects.
