His Ideas 19 ~ Healthy Lifestyle
January 20, 2021
He vaguely had thought that the coronaviruses didn't choose people. If you don't want to contract the coronavirus, you should stay away from places where coronavirus holders might be; or, you should protect yourself against the coronavirus by wearing a mask and washing your hands.

When he was reading a newspaper, he saw an advertisement of a book got his attention. The title was 'COVID-19 ~A Novel Coronavirus's 7 Mysteries'. He bought it and started to read. The author was a specialist of immunology. The book began by discussing the very basic things about viruses and other medical things. Our body has functions to protect ourselves against viruses and other pathogens like bacteria. Any viruses, including COVID-19, can't enter into a human's body without going through a set of defensive barriers that our bodies have created:

There are many viruses and bacteria constantly surrounding around human beings, but we are normally okay because human beings have a natural immune system. Immune systems can be categorized into two types, natural ones and acquired ones.

Natural immune systems have two types of barriers, one type are physical barriers like tears, saliva, mucous membrane on passage ways and intestines, etc. Tears and saliva have a natural disinfectant, in a mucous membrane there are a lot of cells that literally eat pathogens. The type of barriers are white blood cells. They attack and eat pathogens.

Acquired immune systems are made after the reaction against pathogens, or by vaccines. A natural immune system works first when pathogens come, then they also help to an acquired immune system to work suitably against that particular pathogen.

Both our natural immune systems' and acquired immune systems' strength depends on the person. Some people easily catch a cold and some people don't. It is said that 90% of cold cases are caused by viruses including influenza viruses.

If a person is in good condition, i.e. healthy, that person's immunity is strong; however, if the person is unhealthy, that person's immune system is weak. If they are tired or lack sleep, they tend to get a cold easily because their strength of immunity is low.

The author recommended some things in order to strengthen one's immunity condition.

1. Walking, Yoga, Stretching, Massage (They will increase one's blood flow, and allow the lymph glands to work smoothly; and, as a result, one's immunity will go up.)
2. Relaxing, Bathing in lukewarm water, living a Slow life (High stress produces chemicals that will suppress immunity.)
3. Eating suitably (Obesity breaks the balance of immunity.), Drinking alcohol less, Quit smoking

[His Idea #19 : Healthy Lifestyle]

Let's adopt the author's recommendations.
People can stay home and away from their usual busy commute and competition among their coworkers at work. They have more time to relax. They can eat good food, not junk food, at a suitable time, not very late after work.

However, staying home's bad part is that people tend not to walk or exercise much at home. People tend to feel more stress from the coronavirus pandemic. In this case, remember if the coronavirus doesn't harm you, your stress might harm you.

So why don't we start to yoga, slow movement exercises, deep breathing exercises, and meditation? We don't need to fear the coronavirus unnecessarily. Let's create "outer" and "inner" beauty during this opportunity!
