| A researcher mentioned that the Coronavirus was clever, and because of this, the virus would look for humans' weak points, and sneak into there. The Bloomberg Newspaper on February 1st stated that the virus was mild, and because of this mildness this virus would spread and kill a lot of people. He had to admit that their prediction had become real. Also taken from that Bloomberg article: ... Viruses are helpless on their own. Without a living thing to make their home, they can't reproduce and spread. Often, that host may be an animal, and from there the virus may jump to people. When an outbreak happens, isolating people isolates the virus. Hospital gowns and masks stop it from spreading through the air or in bodily fluids. Quarantines keep sick people away from new hosts. The perfect virus makes people sick enough to spread - sneezing up droplets of germ-laden mist into the air, or leaving a thin residue from a wiped nose on a subway pole - without making them so sick or killing them so quickly that they never get the chance to pass it on. "There is definitely a sweet spot," said Rohn, the University College London pandemic expert. "The minute you run out of people, it's game over for that virus. It's a balance the virus needs to strike."... But he thought that people willingly offer chances for the virus to survive. Maybe it was because of people's weak points; how to think and how to act. Weak Point 1: Danger past and long forgotten People can't remember things from long  ago. In this country, there is a proverb, "If it's past your throat, you'll forget the heat." He was shocked when he was watching TV, a lot of tourists in Spain were walking around without masks. In Spain, there were still a lot of new infections that appeared every day. Weak Pont 2: People can get used to it There is an expression in this country "a boiling frog". When a frog is thrown into a pot full of water, if the water is hot, he will immediately jump out. But, if the water is lukewarm and the temperature is going up little by little, the frog won't realize it, and will end up being boiled to death. Even a thousand new infections a day could be a new "normal", and people would start to become careless. Weak Point 3: People tend to think of oneself as 'special' Almost all of the patients who suffered from the Coronavirus said, "I had never thought of contracting the Coronavirus." He watched it on TV. People have no reason to have confidence that he or she won't suffer from the virus. Weak point 4: People hate to be ordered Sometimes ordering people to wear masks create trouble in places like supermarkets, shops, public spaces, etc. On the other hand, passengers on a flight obey the order, because they knew that if they refused, they would not be allowed to board. He had to say that more and more there was a double-standard in society for where and when to wear masks. They might not be 'weak points' but at least the Coronavirus won't miss these points: people's low "quarantine consciousness". One professor said, "You shouldn't think about whether the rate of contracting the Coronavirus is high or low. Don't you still get on a plane which has the possibility of falling, even if it is only once in a thousand times?" And he thought that this type of imagination is how people needed to think now. In this case the passengers are not only you, but your family, your relatives, your friends, and other people who you love. Imagination should be one of the most important human strengths. Altogether, these "weak points" create a low "quarantine consciousness" which will allow the virus to continue to spread. |
