His Ideas 40 ~ Personal Freedom
July 15, 2021
He was watching world news on TV.
The French government was planning to make a new law in order to mandate giving vaccinations to workers of nursing homes and other facilities for elderly people. In the current situation, the Indian mutation type, called 'Delta', was spreading rapidly. In some areas where the vaccination rate was low, the pandemic was increasing. If the workers in those facilities refused to receive vaccinations, they might be fired. The opposition party was against the law.

In various countries, the deceleration of the vaccination rate was a problem. A certain number of people didn't want to get vaccinated. People who have a strong allergic reaction, called 'anaphylaxis', shouldn't get a vaccination, or, at least, should be very careful of it. But, for others, each government highly recommended vaccinating. People who suffered from severe disease or chronic disease were prioritized to get vaccinated with elderly people.

If a certain number of people refused to be vaccinated, it would delay the virus's reducing speed, thus increasing the number of patients and death rate, and therefore the government's health budget would become bigger, the economy's recovery later, the government's taxes less, jobless people more; but, the government couldn't support them because of a limited budget. So each government really wanted to raise the vaccination rate, some even gave incentives to those who receive vaccinations, like giving sports tickets, food, lottery tickets, etc.

The Health Ministry in this country is announcing on its website how many people died after the vaccination with a detailed description. When he first saw this, he thought that the vaccine might not fit this country's people because the death rate was very high. It was one person per 100,000 which was higher than the rate of those getting anaphylaxis, which was several people per million. But, the government said that they couldn't find any relationship between their death and the vaccination. But, maybe a lot of people doubted it. The main reason for refusing to get vaccinated was its side effects.

He got an idea, and checked on the internet about how many people regularly die in this country. 3,000 people die every day. For traffic accidents, the death rate per year was 3,000. So he could guess that there might be a certain number of people whose death was unclear, although this had no scientific ground.

When he thought about vaccinations, he remembered a book.
A bacteriologist said in his book that in this country there were 3,000 women who died from cervical cancer every year. There is a vaccination for this disease. Actually, in Finland all women get this vaccination and nobody dies from the disease. Before, in this country, there was a big campaign by the mass media, against the vaccination because of its side effects. After that, the vaccination rate dramatically dropped. The author of the book mentioned that the vaccination's most difficult part will be to vaccinate to people who are now healthy.

His Idea #40 : Personal Freedom

This might be rhetoric but he had to think that if he or she who hadn't gotten the vaccination contracted the coronavirus, they would want to receive any possible treatments and medicine, which are always stronger (and might have more side effects) than a vaccination.

In the Spanish flu's time, there was no vaccination. The flu suddenly stopped after a certain number of people who got antibodies by suffering from the flu, albeit leaving an uncountable number of people dead. If the coronavirus lasted long, there might be other mutation types. To make it as short as possible, vaccination should be prioritized more than one's personal freedom, he thought.
