His Ideas 38 ~ Free from Biases
July 1, 2021
Recently he came across three unique ideas that he had never thought of:

Case 1: Non-alcoholic Bar
Bars were the biggest victims of the coronavirus pandemic. Sometimes governments ordered or asked bars to close, or to close earlier. Actually bars seem to be the most probable places to transmit the coronavirus. Thanks to alcohol, people become bold and aggressive and their voices become louder, which makes their saliva droplets travel further away ...

The bar shown on TV only served non-alcoholic drinks. He didn't know about other countries, but in this country, there were so many non-alcoholic beers, non-alcohol highballs, and non-alcoholic chuhai (rice based spirits) sold. The bar owner in the interview said that after they started their non-alcoholic menu, the sales returned to the same as normal years. Maybe the bar served their own made non-alcoholic Martinis, Manhattans, Moscow Mules, etc. None of the customers were drunk, so they would speak rationally and in a quiet tone, thus, the risk of creating a corona cluster is less.

Case 2: Photo Wedding
Wedding halls were another hard hit business.
In a wedding ceremony, there are a lot of people who come together from various places ~the couple's families, relatives, friends, co-workers, etc. If a groom and a bride live in A town, their hometowns are B town and C town, people from A, B, C will gather, and have a big party. This is a big risk.

Recently he watched on TV, a wedding company that set up a photo session in a private large outside flower garden. The wedding company had received special permission for the usage of the flower garden. For nominal fee, the private operator of the flower garden opened its gates for this special photo session event. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, this private flower garden limited its hours and customer allowance.

Case 3: DIY Camping Car
When he was surfing on YouTube, he happened to watch a video of a couple who owned a camping car. They introduced other camping cars that were made by themselves. They gathered for a private event to introduce their own DIY camping cars. From his perspective, camping cars are made in a factory and are very expensive.

Almost all of the users had used a kei-truck, which is a small truck in which the tax is cheaper and the mileage is better. On the loading space, they set a 'house part', which varied from gorgeous to simple, but each looked comfortable to stay in. Each owner explained how they thought deeply in order to make them functional. They had a bed, chairs and tables, cooking space with a sink, etc. They looked proud of their cars.

He also found a video that introduced how to make a camping car. A guy prepared 5cm×5cm wooden planks and 5cm thick polystyrene boards. He started to make the floor part. He made a frame which fit on the loading space of the car. He divided it with the planks to make 30cm×30cm mesh in the frame. Then he cut a polystyrene board into 30cm×30cm plates and put them in each mesh. He covered both sides with plywood boards. For the other parts: walls with a door and windows and a roof were made in the same way. Then he painted them and set them on the truck. At the end of the video, he revealed that the total cost of this, including furniture, was less than $1,000!

His Idea #38 : Free from Biases

Maybe in the camping cars' case, the owners don't change their car itself, the house part's weight is within loading limits, and they don't stay in the house area when driving; because the house part is just the "load", they don't break any traffic laws, maybe. He never thought of it.

If we could get rid of our own biases, we would have a lot of things to do, he thought.
