His Ideas 10 ~ Vegetable Gardening
November 12, 2020
He again thought about what would be the problems for people who are living under the coronavirus situation:
・They are not able to go traveling as often as before.
⇒They have lost chances to see beautiful scenery, historical monuments, etc.
⇒They have lost chances to eat local food and drink.
⇒If it was in a group, it would be a good chance to deepen their relationship with others.
・They are not able to go to sporting events, theatrical plays, amusement places, movie theaters, etc. as often as before.
⇒They have lost chances to enjoy exciting things, artistic things, etc.
⇒If it was in a group, it would be a good chance to deepen their     relationship with others.
・They are not be able to go eating and drinking out as often as before.
⇒They have lost chances to eat good food that professional cooks make.
⇒If it was in a group, it would be a good chance to deepen their relationship with others.
・They have to be at home for a long time.
      ⇒They feel stressed.
⇒They become unhealthy because of less exercising and movement, as well as lacking exposure to the sun, which naturally produces vitamin D in the human body.
⇒They have fewer chances to talk with their friends, classmates, coworkers, etc. They might become lonely and depressed.

Are there any ways to solve these problems efficiently and reasonably?  He had an idea.

[His Idea #10 : Vegetable Gardening]

For a long time, he had been a member of an English conversation club, and in the club there were several members who have the same pastime: vegetable gardening. They were retired people and they sometimes shared their experiences of vegetable gardening, saying how enjoyable it was. They sometimes would bring and share their vegetables with the other members. They said smiling that they were busy to plow, to sow, to fertilize, to weed, and to harvest. Even in the winter, they also were busy to learn about how to make new vegetables or how to improve their vegetables' quality. Of course, they are healthy physically and mentally. Maybe growing natural products would give energy to human beings as creatures, he thought. Other members were also happy that they could get free fresh vegetables, which were somehow tastier than the ones sold in shops.

In this country, one of the biggest industrial problems was farmers' aging and the increase of abandoned farm land.

How about this? The government could buy abandoned farm land at a low cost as land was cheap. They could give subsidies to the cities to enact such a policy. They could ask NPOs to organize the farm land to gather applicants to make garden plots.

It would be refreshing to work outside, surrounded by growing vegetables, while having a low risk of contracting the coronavirus. The owners' family might want to help. It would be a good opportunity to work with others, especially children. It would be a good educational experience. The owners could exchange their know-hows. Beginners could get information on how to make vegetables from veterans, as well as from the internet. If they would like, they could have a garden party after harvesting, it would be fun for people to share their efforts. Even a poor harvest in quality or quantity would be a good motivation for owners to improve and study during the offseason, i.e. in winter.
