Dream
March 14, 2019
On this day, he was browsing on a website named 'TED Talks' and ventured on unusual presentation.

TED Talks is a famous presentation video supply system/organization. On its website there are more than 2,000 videos of speeches. The videos are on YouTube, and you can watch them for free.
Their own introduction is as follows:

"TED: Ideas worth spreading
TED Talks are influential videos from expert speakers on education, business, science, tech and creativity, with subtitles in 100+ languages. Ideas free to stream and download."

The themes of speeches vary. For example, on the first page of the site, you can see some titles like:

・Where Did the Moon Come From? A New Theory
・The 'Dementia Village' That's Redefining Elder Care
・The Most Powerful Woman You've Never Heard of
・How We Can Store Digital Data in DNA
・A Bold Idea to Replace Politicians
・How to Teach Kids to Talk About Taboo Topics
・Three Ways the Universe Could End
・How to Cope With Anxiety

The speakers vary from professors, business executives to musicians, human rights activists, sometimes very famous people like Steve Jobs and Michelle Obama. The length of presentations are about 10 minutes to 20 minutes. The speakers give their presentation in front of an audience, usually they use slides like normal presentations.

He sometimes watched presentations, but not so many times.
Usually, the speakers' way of presenting was great ~smooth talking, logical, full of new knowledge, sometimes very serious but usually impressive. But even so, he had to say he easily forgot what they talked about.

On this day, when he was checking a list of TED Talks with the titles and pictures of the presenters, he was attracted by one picture because it was a little bit strange. A guy in his 40s was wearing a working uniform that engineers or construction workers usually wore. In TED Talks, speakers usually wear a jacket or casual clothes like a T-shirt and jeans. He never saw a person wearing a working uniform.

The title of the presentation was 'Your Thought Invites'. He was curious, and so he started to watch.

The presentation started that when he was a child, his mother said that if one could image something, it would become real.

He was a president/engineer of a small rocket company of 20 workers, which produced small type of rockets and rocket-related devices and equipment.

He said, "'Developing space' is not my goal, it is just a means."

He introduced his child' era's interaction with his grandma and grandpa. His grandma once said, "Don't save money because it could decrease its value. If you have money, you should buy books and read them, which will give you knowledge and new ideas, which will earn you money."

One day he and his grandpa were watching the Apollo rocket reaching the moon. He had never seen his grandpa that happy. His grandpa said "You can go to space someday." He became interested in rockets after this event and started to read books and study about them. When he became a junior high student, his dream was clear ~to work with rockets.

But the teacher laughed at it and said, "Don't think of that silly dream, but study hard for your exams." He added, "In the first place, space things require very smart people and huge amount of money. You have no chance."

He became very sad and thought, "What are dreams? Are we only able to dream small dreams? But, who decides whether the dream possible or not? How can someone say something is impossible when they have never done it?"

In his speech, he emphasized about the danger of the statement, "You won't succeed anyways." It's a word to take away one's confidence and possibility. It was a terrible statement, but at the same time, it was a comfortable statement because once you believe this statement, you will be released from making any effort."

"There are so many people's advice about ruining people's potential, especially for kids," he said. So his goal was to break those types of fixed ideas. So what's the most unrealistic thing for people to imagine? It is to make rockets! So he insisted in his project. He hopes that there are no people who doubt their own possibilities. He hopes people will continue to think how to change the world for the better.

Afterwards, he was thankful for watching this video and wanted to be one who believed in his possibility.
